Services at
Shopmobility YORK
Even if you have serious difficulty
in walking, you can still enjoy York's city centre by using powered
scooters, electric wheelchairs or manual wheelchairs and you'll have the
freedom to go shopping or visit the tourist attractions.
Who is the
service for?
It does not matter why your mobility
is limited or whether you are a resident or a visitor to York. Shopmobility is
there to lend a helping hand (and wheel) to anyone who needs it.
What is offered?
Service - We are here
to lend, wheelchairs
and scooters to anyone who needs them. The amount of time for which the
vehicle will be lent is decided by our staff in consultation with you, the
member. There are no pre-specified time slots. To take advantage of this
service you must first register as a user of Shopmobility York (Annual Member or Casual/Visitor Member).
How can I take
advantage of the service?
It's really very simple to take
advantage of the service offered by Shopmobility York - simply follow this
step-by-step guide and you'll be sampling the delights that York offers in no
time.
STEP 1 - Getting in contact.
The first thing you must do is get in touch with us, either over the phone, e-mail
or by
visiting our centre. We will run you through the registration process,
then provisionally book the date and time which you would like.
STEP 2 - Registering.
On the day of your provisional booking, you must come to the Shopmobility Centre
with 2 pieces of identification which have your home address and your signature
on them (e.g. Utility bill, driver's licence, benefit/pension book). Then,
having filled in the appropriate registration
form, insurance declaration and paid the appropriate fee
you will be able to use one of our vehicles.
STEP 3 - Driver training.
Before you take your vehicle out into the city centre you must first take part
in a short driver training session. This is to ensure your safety and that
of the general public.
STEP 4 - Collecting the vehicle.
Now that everyone's satisfied you may take your vehicle out into York.
It really is that simple to take
advantage of the friendly service offered by Shopmobility York, and
once you are registered you may use the service as often as you wish. Please see below

MobilityHire
What is MobilityHire ?
Many disabled people,
either local or visitors, young or old, need a scooter or wheelchair
overnight or longer. Shopmobility York has created MobilityHire
for this purpose. There is no annual fee, instead we ask for a deposit
which you will receive back upon return of your Scooter or Wheelchair

Please note:
Electric Vehicles are only available for hire within the city walls.
For operational reasons we cannot permit electric vehicles to be taken outside this area
Manual wheelchairs, on the other hand, may be taken anywhere. You may use them in York, anywhere within the UK and, by special arrangement, may be taken abroad.
All hired vehicles must be collected from and returned to the offices of Shopmobility York during open hours. We do not operate a delivery or collection service.
All hire charges and Deposits required in cash or cheque supported by bank cheque guarantee card.
